What is Fascia?
Fascia is a connective tissue that permeates through the entire body. It is made up of collagen and elastin fibers. The consistency is somewhere between a solid and a liquid. Although fascia is one continuous matrix, there are different kinds of fascia. At Elemental, when you receive a Somatic Skin Session, we are directly working with your superficial fascia and fat; also know as the hypodermis. During a Myofascial Swedish Massage, both the superficial and deep layers of fascia will be palpated.
What is a Somatic Skin Session?
We focus on utilizing the body's innate ability to increase cellular turnover without compromising the skins barrier and function. Applying massage as the foundation is a necessary tool in lifting, sculpting and softening the structures of the upper body, and this is exactly what we do. Some might say this is an alternative to Botox, but this is far from the truth. The Somatic Skin Session encourages flow, mobility and hydration in the fascia, where as Botox inhibits movement. The result is unique to each client, but commonly a more radiant appearance and relaxed state of mind is felt. This is a no product service and is curated to fit the clients specific needs. When you arrive for your Somatic Skin Session, please refrain from wearing makeup or skin-care products of any kind.
What does Holistic mean?
Holistic is the new craze, but its roots are ancient. When we use the word in a treatment description, this means several things such as: looking at lifestyle influences and not just skin-care, as it pertains to whole wellness. This could be anywhere from food choices, movement medicine, mindset shifts, habitual patterns, environmental factors and discussing your healing journey.
Is a Holistic Facial the same as a Traditional Facial?
They are not the same, but our Holistic Facial is inspired by the Traditional Facial. You can still expect warm towels, rejuvenating skin-care elixirs and of course, massage during your Holistic Facial.
Do you offer peels, extractions, acids or enzymes in service or retail?
At Elemental, we are dedicated to keeping your skin barrier in tact and aim to allow your skin microbiome to thrive. Therefore, we currently do not offer these inclusions. However, we do carry earth minded skincare that encourages a vibrant complexion, while providing nutrients to the skin and body.
What is Facial Reflexology?
Facial Reflexology is a healing modality that uses a stainless steel wand to stimulate various points on the face that correlate to each organ and limb of the body. Through this approach, stagnant energy that is blocking physical and energetic flow, is redirected and cleared for harmonious living. Facial Reflexology is deeply relaxing and suited for all skin types. this does not include foot or hand reflexology
